Wally's Way to Wealth

I can't begin to tell those of you following along here how much I'm enjoying and benefitting from my study of Wally's Way to Wealth!  The daily challenge of sharing of value in this space encourages me to take a more serious and practical approach than I might otherwise take to such an endeavor.  Today is a wonderful example of how THINKING AND ACTING IN A CERTAIN WAY produces personal growth that I would otherwise put off as a wish for a future day or tell myself that I don't have the time or energy to learn new things.  I am 41 years old, after all, and it isn't difficult to teach a "old dog new tricks"?

Well, Wally would have none of that thinking so neither do I and neither should you!

So, this morning I researched how to set-up, create and publish what are called "Pod Casts". The Pod comes from the ubiquitous Apple I-Pod and the "cast" from the traditional concept of "Broadcasting".  The term was originally associated solely with creating audio files for playback on an I-Pod or other MP3 type audio device.  Of course, a Pod Cast, like any Digital Audio File, can be replayed on any computer device whatsoever.  Today, the term "Pod Cast" is used generically for any audio files being broadcast digitally for any medium, including this very blog.

I'm proud to say that I got the whole thing figured out in about an hour and I was able to record my very first Pod Cast specifically for the good readers who are learning how to live IN A CERTAIN WAY!  I chose the preface of "The Science of Getting Rich" as my first offering.  In the preface, Wally let's us know quickly what this whole "Science of Getting Rich" is all about.

The Science of Getting Rich obviously contains one very important relative term -- RICH!  How would you define "rich"?  How did Wally define "rich"?

I define rich as having gained so much in every area of life that I derive my greatest joy in the sharing of my wealth with others.  Money, the traditional measure of wealth, would certainly be included in my definition, but, I would equally include riches of health, riches of spirit, riches of the mind and riches of friendships!

As for Wally, as usual, he had just the right thing to say:

"The man who owns all he wants for the living of all the life he is capable of living is rich..."

I know most people say that they hate Monday more than any other day, but, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Monday!  Monday is the day of hope and with it we all get a blank slate to start our week with success and then keep it on track for success.  If you miss Monday, then it is very difficult to establish a mind focused on THINKING AND ACTING IN A CERTAIN WAY :-)

My Wally's Way Tip for This Particular Monday is:

"You can choose to argue for you limitations today if that's how you want to see things.  Beware, however, for that is an argument you will win every single time!" ~Kurt Maddox

Instead, wouldn't it be better to "argue for your possibilities"?  I think so and so does Wally!

We are all guilty of the delusion that we will start achieving our own great purposes at some future date at which time some yet to happen situation has taken shape in our lives.  We are constantly putting off greatness because we believe that a change in circumstances must take place before we can achieve greatness.

Wally is crystal clear about when we should start being great -- WE MUST BEGIN TODAY!

"You can begin to be great to-day in your own home, in your store or office, on the street, everywhere; you can begin to make yourself known as great; and you can do this by doing everything you do in a great way."

We must begin right now -- not in an hour or even in "a minute" as my kids like to respond when I ask them to do chore.  (I do it just as often, by the way! lol!)

We begin with very next thing we are doing...

Are you sitting at the computer wasting time with too much web-surfing?  Then get up and do something that makes your living space look great, feel great or operate better.

Are you at work procrastinating the next task on your project list?  Then close your browser and complete go at your next 3 tasks AS IF you were the rising star in your company that you are about to become by applying Wally's principles to your current job.

It is a well-known FACT that the very best place to find a better job is transform you current job into a little better job.  Or, at least to do your current job in such a way that you can use your performance as a spring-board to a better opportunity.

Too often we see the future as the answer when all we ever have to work with is the RIGHT NOW and the only place we can ever work with is the RIGHT HERE WHERE WE ARE!

For today's workshop, we ask ourselves an obvious question:  Why would we want to be "rich" anyway?

The obvious answer is that anyone who wants to be able to do the things for themselves, their families or for the causes they'd like to support, you gotta achieve a certain minimum level of success in this world.  This world runs on money.  If you have to money to live a good life, then why wouldn't you want as much of it as you could make so long as you make you money in positive and healthy ways?

Do you want to send your children to great schools?

Then you're gonna need some money!

Do you want to be able to afford to retire one day without having to be a financial burden to your family or, worse, become dependent on the government for your care?

Then you're gonna need some money!

Do you want to live in a nice house, drive a nice car and take a vacation to a nice place now and then?

Then you're definitely gonna need some money!

Wally explains to us that we have "The Right to Be Rich" in the very first page of "The Science of Getting Rich":

WHATEVER MAY BE SAID IN PRAISE OF POVERTY, THE FACT REMAINS that it is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich.  No man can rise to his greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless he has plenty of money; for to unfold the soul and to develop talent he must have many things to use, and he cannot have these things unless he has money to buy them with.

Money, you see, according to Wally, is never an end in itself.  Money is only a means to an end.  The proper goal, Wally suggests, is DEVELOPMENT.

The object of all life is DEVELOPMENT...

Finally, Wally tells us exactly what kind of DEVELOPMENT we should seek once we've gained enough wealth to do so:

Man's right to life means his right to have the free and unrestricted use of all the things which may be necessary to his fullest mental, spiritual, and physical unfoldment; or, in other words, his RIGHT TO BE RICH.

Isn't that a very different attitude than most of us have been taught all of our lives?  How many of us were taught as children that we have a RIGHT TO BE RICH?  How many of us went through our schooling with the motivation that we were training ourselves to one day DEVELOP ourselves into the most completely fulfilled human being that we could become?

If you were, then what a wonderful gift you've been given and what a clear advantage for which you must be very, very grateful!

For the rest of us, however, if we are going to cast off the mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual shackles of poverty of all kinds, then it should help us to understand in the most clear manner that the personal wealth to cultivate happiness is our birthright!

For our first workshop, we will go straight to the central concept that Wally presents early and then returns to over and over throughout the book as he builds layer upon layer of understanding of his "science of getting rich" so that we might be able apply this "science" to our lives and also become rich, just as Wallace Wattles was able to do before his untimely death in 1911.

The core concept of "The Science of Getting Rich" is as follows:

THERE IS THINKING STUFF FROM WHICH ALL THINGS ARE MADE, AND which, in its original state, permeates penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.

Man can form things in his thought, and by impressing his thought upon Formless Substance can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.

The very first step toward using "Thinking Stuff" to create wealth from "Formless Substance", according to Wally, is to "entertain a lively and sincere GRATITUDE" for all the many blessings we ALREADY HAVE!

Our first exercise toward "getting rich" then is to enter into a state of sincere and unqualified GRATITUDE for every good and right thing already in our lives.  Here's a great way to do just that:

1. Quickly make a list of the major blessings in your life on a blank sheet of note paper.

2. Meditate for a moment on each blessing and put your mind into a state of utter gratitude and appreciation for those blessings.

3. Notice how few of these blessings required that you COMPETE for them.

4. Notice how many of them were the result of your own CREATIVE POWER or the CREATIVE POWER of others from which you derived a tremendous benefit.

For example, I am very grateful for my ability to sit down in front of a blank computer screen and use my keyboard, brain and fingers to create something from Formless Substance that at least a few people find valuable enough to read.  Time is our only limited resource.  To have someone invest their limited time in relationship with you is the ultimate gift one human being can ever give to another!

I didn't compete against anyone to win whatever level of skill I have as a writer.  I created my writing abillity out of my vision that I want to be a writer.  I executed that vision by spending as much time as possible writing and improving my writing skills.  Today, I can sit down at any moment and write four or five pages on almost any subject without breaking a sweat.  It isn't hard work and it isn't a sacrifice -- it is a wonderful blessing and I am grateful for all the creative advances mankind has made that make this very blog possible.  Just imagine what Wally could have accomplished if he'd had access to the technology and the innovations which we can so easily access!

5. Now, keep that ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE throughout the rest of your day and in all your dealings with everyone in your life.  Don't let anyone steal it from you simply because they are stuck in a state of negative attitude.

Welcome to the A Certain Way blog, where each day you'll find a new post pertaining to The Science of Wallace Delois Wattles, the great American success story and sublime communicator of the very principles which led to his rise from abject poverty to a life of success and acclaim.  I call my new mentor "Wally" to evoke the simple nature of his his profound philosophy for individual prosperity. 

More than anything else, Wally's message to the seeker of life's riches is a CALL TO ACTION!  So, ACTION will be the focus of this blog as well as the focus of this blogger.  I won't simply be rehashing The Wattles Way to Wealth.  Anyone could do that.  No, I'll also be putting Wally's Wisdom into action in my own life simultaneous.  I'll be sharing my own experiences as I apply these success principles to my own life.  As you follow along and we learn together, I hope you'll generously share your stories here as comments so that we can all support one another along this supremely important journey from wherever we are to wherever it is that we want to go in our lives.
